Edit a contract line
You can change most fields in "Draft" or "Renewal only" contract lines except the Item field. However, what you can edit in an "In progress" contract line depends on whether it's in a termed or evergreen contract.
See Contract line field descriptions for information on each field.

Edit a contract line for a termed contract
A termed contract has both start and end dates.
You can change the following information for an "In progress" contract line in a termed contract:
- If revenue has not been posted, if an invoice has not been generated, or if the contract line does not participate in an MEA allocation, you can change the Line start date, GL posting date, Billing section fields, and dimension values.
- If revenue has not been posted, if an invoice has not been generated, or if the contract line does not participate in an MEA allocation, you can change the Line end date for the following use cases.
- Billing method = "Quantity-based" AND the Quantity type = "Committed"
- Billing method = "Fixed price". For Flat/fixed amount frequency = "Include with every invoice"
- Change the Bill to or Ship to contacts.
- If the revenue schedules have no recognition posted yet or if there's no MEA allocation, you can change the Revenue templates and start and end dates.
- If you’re also subscribed to Digital Board Book, you can change the Change type to indicate if the item is New or Add-on MRR (for items that are eligible for MRR tracking).
- Set up the contract line for renewal, add custom renewal amounts, or clear the Renew checkbox.
- Add a usage record to the contract line.
- Add an expense to the contract line.
- For kit contract lines:
- You can edit the kit item contract line according to the standard contract line edit rules.
- Kit component contract lines inherit most fields from the kit item contract line, so if you want to change data in a kit component contract line, edit the kit item contract line.
- You can only edit the Revenue template and revenue start and end dates on a kit component contract line.
- To change dimensions, see Reassign contract line dimensions.
To make other changes to an "In progress" contract line, you might need to delete or cancel the line and create a new one. Learn more about deleting or canceling a contract line.
If the Renew checkbox is cleared, you can only edit custom fields.
If the Renew checkbox is checked and the Renewal billing template field does not contain a value, you can edit all fields (per any field description restrictions) except the following:
- Item
- Renew
- Line end
- Item description
- Revenue 1 end date
- Revenue 2 end date
- Go to Contracts > All > Contracts.
- Find the termed contract containing the contract line that you want to edit.
- Select More actions > Edit at the end of the row.
- Select Edit next to the contract line that you want to edit.
- Make your changes.
- Select Save.
- Open an existing termed contract in Edit mode and select the pencil icon next to the contract line you want to edit.
- In the Contract line popup window, make the desired changes and select Save.
Edit a contract line in an evergreen contract
An evergreen contract does not have an end date.
You can change the following information for an "In progress" contract line in an evergreen contract:
- Change the Line start date for the first recurring billing period (Period = 1). If Period = 2 or greater, you cannot change the Line start date.
- Change the Flat/fixed amount or Calculator fields. This changes the amount for the "In progress" recurring billing period and can change the amount for future recurring periods, depending on contract's evergreen template pricing option or existing override amounts.
- Add amounts to the Override evergreen amounts section in the Auto-renewal tab. Use this tab to manually override the Flat/fixed amount for one or more future recurring billing periods.
- Clear the Recurring checkbox. This stops the contract line from recurring. Learn more about ending an evergreen contract line.
For a "Canceled" contract line in an evergreen contract, you can only edit custom fields.
- Go to Contracts > All > Contracts.
- Find the evergreen contract containing the contract line that you want to edit.
- Select More actions > Edit at the end of the row.
- Select Edit next to the contract line that you want to edit.
- Make your changes.
- Select Save.
- Open an existing evergreen contract in Edit mode and select the pencil icon next to the contract line you want to edit.
- In the Contract line popup window, make the desired changes and select Save.
