Restrict transactions to the entity level

It is generally recommended to work at the top level in a multi-entity shared company. However, there are some use cases where users must work at the entity level only. For example, sometimes accounting rules can specify that each transaction must be coded to a single business entity only.

Losing inter-entity transaction automation

You can restrict General Ledger transactions to the entity level for specific business reasons. However, doing so will disable automated inter-entity transactions in your General Ledger. Consider this carefully before choosing to restrict General Ledger transactions to the entity level.

Before you restrict General Ledger transactions to the entity level

  • Ensure that all top level General Ledger transactions are either Approved or Posted.
  • If you have any recurring General Ledger journal entries set up to post to the top level, change them to post to the entity level. Otherwise, the recurring journal entries will no longer work.
Restricting General Ledger transactions to the entity level means:
  • You cannot restrict work to the top level.
  • You cannot benefit from using inter-entity transactions in your multi-entity share company.
  1. Go to Company > Admin > Subscriptions.
  2. Select Configure for Multi-Entity Management.
  3. Select one or both of the following options:
    • Restrict GL transactions to the entity level only
    • Restrict subledger transactions to the entity level only
