Add new parent location
You can create a hierarchy of locations to reflect how locations are organized within your company. The hierarchy is established by defining parent and child relationships between locations.

For locations that are part of a hierarchy of locations but are not companies with more than one entity that have multiple base currencies, you can change the parent location as long as there are no transactions in the child location. After transactions have been recorded in the child location, the Parent field is no longer editable.
Create a new parent location
When you add a new parent, you create a new location. If the location already exists, all that’s needed is to assign any child to the location.
Deleting and recreating these items still counts toward their individual limits.
Exceeding this limit could cause unexpected issues.
- Go to Reports > Setup > Dimensions > Locations and select Add (circle).
- Enter an ID and Name for the location.
- Enter the location ABN.
- Set the Entity as the Parent.
All Locations must have a parent. If this is going to be the parent location, the Entity acts as the parent for this location. - Select or create Contacts that specify name, address, and other details for the location. If you have an Avalara AvaTax integration for computing tax, the Ship to contact is mandatory.
- Optionally, include a Location title for reporting and the Start and End dates of operation.
- Save your location.
Add child locations
If the child location already exists:
- Go to Reports > Setup > Dimensions > Locations.
- Find the location to make a child and select Edit.
- Select the parent location from the Parent dropdown.
- Save your changes.
If the child location does not exist:
- Create the child location (described in Create), setting the correct Location as the Parent.
To change a parent location:
- Go to Reports > Setup > Dimensions > Locations.
- Find the location to change and select Edit.
- In the Location section, select the Parent location from the Parent dropdown list.
- Select Save.
