About standard system reporting periods

Reporting periods are used when you create reports, budgets, and when you open and close books. They let you limit the information on the report to specific time ranges.

What are standard system reporting periods?

Standard system reporting periods are generic reporting periods available with Sage Intacct. The following tables describe the available Sage Intacct standard system reporting periods. If none of these match your reporting requirements, you can create reporting periods based on your company information setup.

If the dropdown list doesn't show all of the options in the following tables, your administrator might have inactivated some of them. For more information, see Activate or inactivate system reporting periods.

Inception reporting period

Inception reporting period
Period Description

Inception to date

Inception-based reporting is intended to report data from the earliest actual transaction was recorded, the opening balance entry. It’s provided to allow for reporting flexibility across Project-type time frames with a defined start and stop date.

Although it can be configured to report on any dimension, use Inception reporting periods mindfully, keeping its intended purpose of reporting flexibly across closed dates in mind. It’s not intended to report on all data across all time as this can result in performance slowdown or timeout in a real-time reporting context.

If you record any actual entry before opening balances you’ll add additional periods to Inception reporting timeframes for Intacct to check, increasing the processing time.

Fiscal reporting periods

The fiscal reporting periods are essentially the same as the calendar reporting periods, but are used when you want to use fiscal reporting periods that are vary from generic calendar periods.

Many companies have a fiscal year that differs from the calendar year. In this case, you'd use the Fiscal reporting periods. You need to have defined the company fiscal year in the company setup.

The reporting periods are fundamentally the same as those with the calendar year, but based on your company's fiscal year, as configured in Company Information.

As an example, the following table uses a fictional company whose fiscal year begins Feb 1 and ends Jan 31. Fiscal quarters in this configuration would include Feb 1 to Apr 30, May 1 to Jul 31, Aug 1 to Oct 31, and Nov 1 to Jan 31.
