Create a naming convention (optional)

The related dimension field appears with a look-up icon (magnifier) on the customer record. This field type works best with 1-to-many, or many-to-many relationships. You can set the related dimension field to use a dropdown list, which is easier, for example, for a 1-to-1 relationship.

When you create a relationship, the system automatically creates a naming convention that will appear for related-dimension values in any dropdown list that you create to use the dimension relationships. You can customize the name to make it more meaningful to you.

  1. Go to the related dimension record. For example if Location is the related dimension, go to Platform Services > All > Objects.
  2. On the list, select Edit beside Location. The Objects Properties & Attributes window appears.
  3. In Lookup name template, enter the naming convention that you want to appear in the product. For example, for the related dimension Location, you might change the default naming convention from {!LOCATIONID!}--{!NAME!} to {!LOCATIONID!}--Rel-{!NAME!} where Rel indicates that this is a related-dimension value.

Now, any value that appears in a related-dimension dropdown list will display Rel before the actual value.

The option to create a naming convention works only for newer pages, such as in order-entry, cash-management, time, expenses, and so forth.
