About the Dimension balances report

Use the Dimension balances report to create a summary style presentation of balances with dimension and account values. You can select the dimensions to include in a balance style report. Balances are shown side by side, per dimension, or in a single column view with cascading values. We recommend side by side because this view shows the most data per page.

You can also select the Retain YTD Balances feature to show accumulated balances for IS accounts that close into retained earnings at year-end.

The dimensions and accounts that you select form the content of your report.

To open the report, go to General Ledger > All > Reports > Dimension balances. If you do not see this report on the menu, see your system administrator to add it to your application.

Who needs this report

The Dimension balances report gives you visibility into account balances by dimension in aggregate, rather than by filtering dimensions. You can include or exclude statistical accounts. You can display accounts with a zero balance or only those zero-balance accounts that have had activity. Accounts are open for placement and an optional selection.

After you've displayed the report, you can drill down through accounts to the general ledger, and then to individual transactions.

What's in this report?

For optimal performance, we recommend filtering narrowly from a dimension perspective when looking at many or all General Ledger accounts. Or use a range of General Ledger accounts if you want to view data for multiple dimensions.

Changing the filters and format will add or remove columns from the report.

The default Balances by Dimension report shows you the company and report name, the date the report was created, and the time period that the report spans. It also has the following columns:

Report Column Heading Description
Time period The range of time that’s included in this report. Time period can differ based on the As of date you select.
Account number The number of the bank account.
Account name The name of the bank account.
Opening balance The amount of the account's balance on the date shown.
Closing balance The total amount of the account balance after adjustments.
