Learn about permissions
When working with reports, it's important to understand the inter-relationships of permissions within Sage Intacct. Each of the permission types can affect your ability to view, run, and edit reports.
If you are new to Sage Intacct, it might be helpful to review the Permissions overview. If you are unsure of the permissions and privileges assigned to you, contact your Sage Intacct administrator.
User permissions by application
As a user, you are assigned permissions that determine what you can see within an application, and the reports based on the application. You are not able to view and change records until you are assigned the permissions to do so.
Permissions enable you to perform a particular function or task within a specific area of the product. For example, you might have permission within the General Ledger to view financial reports but not to create, edit, or delete them. For more information, see Application permissions.
Role-based permissions
Permissions can also be assigned to roles, and the roles then assigned to individual users. Role access can be assigned to functional areas within an application and affect the reports you can see, run, and edit.
For example, General Ledger (GL) role-based permissions can affect the reports you are allowed to see, run, and edit in Sage Intacct subscriptions, such as Interactive Custom Report Writer (ICRW). For more information, see Role-based vs. user-based permissions.
User type permissions
Your user type, along with user and role-based permissions, determine what you are allowed to see and do with reports. Your user type determines the maximum set of features and activities that you can access and perform. For example, Business users have unlimited access rights while other users have limited access to features. Your access can be further limited by your assigned permissions and roles.
If you have the correct role and permissions but have been assigned the wrong user type, you will not be able to see, run, or edit certain reports. For more information, see Permission and user type considerations.
Subscription permissions
The following tables provide subscription and permission guidelines for the different types of Sage Intacct reports. Contact your Sage Intacct account manager to enable your project subscription.

Subscription levels for ICRW and IVE
ICRW and IVE each have two subscription levels (licenses) that affect what you can see and do:
- ICRW: User module and Designer module, for more information, see Interactive Custom Report Writer permissions.
- IVE: Consumer version and Explorer version, for more information see Interactive Visual Explorer permissions.
ICRW and IVE each have a separate set of permissions. Your subscription level, combined with your user type and permissions, define what you can see and do in ICRW and IVE.
