Run a custom report—ICRW

Frequent Interactive Custom Report Writer (ICRW) report users typically run reports from the reports list, Reports center, or application menus. For example, a report designed for Projects can be run by going to either the Projects menu or the Reports center.

Run a custom report

You can add an ICRW report to an application, such as General Ledger or Projects. Adding the report to an application makes it available from the application menu and the Reports center.

You must use Run Interactive to run ICRW reports that use filters on concatenated fields.

You can run a custom report from the Reports center or from the application.

Application menu

  1. From the application menu, select the ICRW report.
Consider a report named Customer by Territory was added to the Accounts Payable application. In this example, you would go Accounts Payable and find the report named Customer by Territory.
  2. Select Run.

Reports center

  1. Go to Reports > All > Reports center and go to the Custom Reports tab.
  2. Locate the report in the list and select Run. If you do not see a Run link, select the report name. ICRW reports have interactive after the report name.
  3. Enter any selection prompts, if further information are required to run the report.
  4. Optional: Add a title and footer text.
  5. Select View, Process & store, or Print, depending on how you want to view the report.
  6. Optional: Add the report to a dashboard. For more information, see Add an ICRW report to a dashboard.

The report appears for viewing on the page.

Choose a report format

You can view and output your report in many ways. Some outputs have prerequisite steps to ensure that the output is possible.

Report output formats
Format Description

HTML

HTML is the most common format. The report is displayed in a new window in your browser and retains the ability to drill down on select fields.

PDF

PDF view option displays the report in an Adobe® Acrobat file. This option is a good option if you want to print the report or share it in a locked format. You can't drill down on any fields in a printable report.

PowerPoint

PowerPoint view prompts you to download or open a dynamically created Microsoft® PowerPoint document. You can choose this format if you’re going to incorporate the data from the report into another PowerPoint document such as an annual report. Works with PowerPoint 2007 and later.

CSV

CSV stands for Comma Separated Values. The CSV format is often used to get data in and out of flat file databases and can be a useful development tool. It's heavily dependent on the order of the fields.

Excel

Excel is an industry standard for analyzing tables of data. Exporting to Excel provides you with an organized accessible format for additional number crunching.1 Works with Excel 2007 and later.

Tab delimited format

Similar to the CSV format, a tab delimited file can be a useful development tool. Instead of separating values with commas, the Tab delimited format separates the values with a tab character.

XML

XML stands for Extensible Markup Language and is the main format used for communicating data between the data server, the web server, and your interface. The XML version of your report can be used to communicate structured data to an Internet or intranet page. The XML version can also communicate with another application that uses XML.

1 Changes to Microsoft security can cause issues when exporting to Excel. See Can't export a report to Excel for details.

Edit a custom report

This task demonstrates how to edit an ICRW report.

  1. Go to Reports > All > Advanced > Interactive Custom Reports.
  2. Find the report in the list and select Edit.

For more information, see Edit a custom report.

Troubleshoot report display

Browser cookies can prevent ICRW reports from displaying correctly. For example, column names for dimensions might display incorrectly, or reports do not appear upon editing or running.

Workaround: If you try to run or edit a report and the report does not display correctly, remove the -crw.intacct.com cookies from your browser.
