About 1099s in Sage Intacct
The 1099 process in Sage Intacct generally consists of five steps.
Step 1. Configure your company
Before tracking 1099 amounts, decide how your company will manage 1099 reporting. Determine how transactions are assigned to 1099 forms and boxes, whether line-level overrides are allowed, and how 1099 processing works in a multi-entity environment.
If your company reports 1099 information at the entity level, and not the top level, configure those settings before entering transactions so amounts are tracked correctly throughout the year.

Step 2. Set up suppliers and employees
To report supplier and employee amounts accurately on 1099 forms, configure records with the correct taxpayer information and 1099 form and box. If you're configuring records midyear or bringing forward balances from another system, enter historical year-to-date amounts so totals remain accurate at year-end.
You can also define the names and addresses that appear on printed forms.
Step 3. Tag 1099 transactions
Transactions are included in 1099 processing only when they’re tagged for 1099 treatment and are associated with a supplier or employee configured for 1099s.
Depending on your company's setup, you can adjust individual transactions after they're created by marking them as 1099 eligible or ineligible, excluding specific line items, or assigning a different form and box.
Reviewing transactions throughout the year can help reduce reconciliation work later during the filing season.
Step 4. Review and verify reporting amounts
Before e-filing or printing tax forms, review your 1099 totals to confirm that suppliers and employees are set up to use the correct forms and boxes.
The 1099 report provides a preview of the information that will appear on tax forms and can help identify missing setup information, incorrect classifications, or unexpected totals. If you discover issues, update the related supplier, employee, or transaction information before proceeding.
Step 5. File forms
After reviewing and verifying the totals, file your completed 1099 forms.
Option 1: Electronically file
Depending on your filing requirements and the number of forms you need to submit, you can file electronically using our integration with TaxBandits, or print and mail forms yourself. You can also export 1099 information for use with a third-party filing provider.
Option 2: Print forms and mail them yourself
Order the correct forms from our approved supplier. These are the only forms that we support and are aligned to print tax forms from Sage Intacct. Before printing forms, review alignment and printing requirements to help avoid processing delays or rejected forms.
