Improved workflow handling for inactive items

New and in-progress transactions might not always recognize when an item status is set to inactive. To prevent item handling issues further along in a workflow, we've implemented a configuration adjustment to ensure transactions do not continue processing when they contain inactive items.

Now when an active item is included in a transaction and later set to inactive, it cannot be selected for a transaction. Additionally, any existing transactions containing the inactive item cannot be converted. You'll need to first return the item status to active, complete the transaction workflow, and then reset the item status to inactive.

Only an item using the Inventory Control Default cost method can be reset to active, unless Inventory Control is configured to allow multiple cost methods.

Ways to process transactions containing inactive items

For example, you create a sales invoice containing 2 older model fire extinguishers. Later that month you decide not to sell this particular model of fire extinguisher, so you set the item status to Inactive. However, the customer wants to return 1 fire extinguisher. Before you can create the return transaction, you'll need to reset the item to active using one of the following scenarios:

Scenario 1: If the item uses the Inventory Control Default cost method, or it uses a different cost method and Enable multiple cost methods is selected

  1. Open the item record that that you want to edit and clear the checkbox, Item is inactive.

  2. Complete the transaction workflow.

  3. Reset the item to inactive.

Scenario 2: If the item does not use the Inventory Control Default cost method, and Enable multiple cost methods is not selected

  1. On the Configure Inventory Control page, select Enable multiple cost methods.

  2. Open the item that you want to set to active and clear the checkbox, Item is inactive.

  3. Complete the transaction workflow.

  4. Reset the item to inactive.

  5. If applicable, go to the Configure Inventory Control page to clear the checkbox, Enable multiple cost methods.
