Credit limits for customers
A customer credit limit lets you control the amount of credit you'll extend to a customer.
Using Sage Intacct, you can do the following:
- Specify a credit limit for a customer.
- Indicate what action to take when a credit limit is about to be exceeded. Specifically, you can decide whether to allow the transaction, display a warning, or block the transaction.
- Find customers who are over their credit limit or on hold status.

For If credit limit is exceeded, select the action that happens when users attempt to save an invoice that exceeds the customer's credit limit:
- Warn: display a warning but allow the invoice to be entered.
- Do not allow transactions to be created: does not allow the invoice to be entered.
- Do nothing: allow the invoice to be entered.
- Select Save.
You can also notify users from when a sales order will exceed the customer's credit limit (the user will still be able to complete the sales order). To do this, edit the transaction definition for Sales Orders and select the option to Enforce credit limit.
View customer credit limits and on hold status
If you implemented credit limits for your customers, you can run a Customer List report to see the following:
-
Which customers have exceeded their credit limits.
-
Which customers are on credit hold.
To run a report showing which customers have exceeded their credit limits and/or are currently placed on credit hold:
- Go to Accounts Receivable > All > Reports > Customer list.
- To show results for a specific customer type, select the Customer type dropdown, and then select the customer type you want the report to include.
- To show results for a specific customer or range of customer, use the From customer and To customer dropdowns.
- Select the Show only customers exceeding credit limit checkbox if you want the report to display only those customers who are exceeding their credit limit.
- Select the Show only customers on hold checkbox if you want the report to display only those customers whose accounts are on hold.
- Select the checkbox for each category of data to display in your report.
- Select View.
- You’ve recently implemented the credit limit feature and want to see if any of your customers exceed their new limits.
- To enforce credit limits, you have chosen to allow transactions that exceed the credit limit and display only a warning message. In that case, you might have customers who exceed their credit limits as time goes by, and you can use this report to monitor that.
Similarly, you might want to show only those customers that you’ve explicitly placed on credit hold.
