About user permissions

Permissions enable users to perform a particular function or task within a specific area of the product. Users need to be assigned permissions by their admin to have access to features within Sage Intacct. For example, you might assign a user permission within the General Ledger to view financial reports but not to add, edit, or delete them. If a user is not assigned permissions, the user will have very limited access to all activity within the product.

Users can be assigned permissions through role-based or user-based permissions. Role-based permissions offer a more flexible approach within Intacct. If your company is currently set up for user-based permissions, you can seamlessly change to role-based permissions.

Also, a user's actual permissions can be influenced by other factors, such as their user type, role, and admin privileges. Learn about effective permissions for a user.

User-based permissions

In user-based companies, each user's permissions are set individually when you choose a user type. A user is assigned permissions, which can be managed through the User Application Subscriptions page.

Use the User Application Subscriptions page to assign permissions to a particular user and to view which applications users have access to. From the Permissions page, you can assign a user access to specific functional areas within the selected application. Learn how to assign permissions to users.

Role-based permissions

In role-based companies, permissions are assigned to roles, and then these roles are assigned to each user. With role-based permissions, a role can be assigned to multiple users and permissions can be simply edited through the role.

Use the Roles Subscriptions page to assign permissions to a role and to view which applications are selected for that role. From the Permissions page, you can assign a role access to functional areas within the selected application. After you assign a role to a user, the assigned permissions will affect the user’s ability to perform in the product. Learn how to assign permissions to roles.
