About user types

When you set up users, it's important to pick the right user type. User type determines the maximum set of features and activities that a user can access and perform in Intacct.

In general:

  • User type defines the most that a user can see or do.
  • What a user can actually see and do depends on their permissions.

See User types and permissions to learn how these features work together.

  • Users cannot access features and activities beyond what's allowed by their user type, regardless of their role or permissions.
Different fees are associated with each of the user types. Contact your account manager for more details.

A user's type affects the maximum number of features and activities that they can access and perform in Intacct.

Business users are the only users who can directly affect the General Ledger. For example, an Accounts Payable clerk who needs to enter or pay bills must be a Business user. A user who only enters timesheets or expenses can be given the Employee user type.

The user's User type establishes the range of available features and activities they potentially have access to in Intacct. However, it's a user's effective permissions that ultimately determine what each user can actually do.
