Add, edit, and delete an ownership structure period
You can add, edit, and delete a period in an ownership structure. For example, a given ownership structure could include the periods January through April. You can add a period for May to reflect a change in ownership percentage.
Modifying a period in an ownership structure can affect other periods in the ownership structure. Depending on the state of the period, whether draft or active, sometimes you'll need to take further action. For example, some changes will require you to re-activate and re-consolidate the modified period and subsequent periods. A review is required when making any change to a period that can affect consolidated figures.

You can add or edit a new period in the middle of a set of periods already defined in the ownership structure. For example, suppose that you have defined the periods January, February, and April for an ownership structure. You can add a new period for March in the middle of these periods you defined earlier.

Next steps:
For future periods subsequent to the modified period (whether consolidated or not), proceed to Review, validate, re-activate.
Review, validate, re-activate
After you add or edit a middle period in an unconsolidated ownership structure in an active or draft state, you'll need to:
- Review and validate all subsequent periods. Changing the data for a middle period can affect the data in periods following that middle period. In the previous example, adding or editing a period for March can affect data for April.
- Re-activate the subsequent periods. Because your changes to a period in the middle of the periods defined for the ownership structure can affect subsequent periods, you'll need to re-activate those periods to ensure the data is correct.
You'll need to take these actions when you're adding or changing a period in a draft or active state ownership structure that has not been consolidated.
- Review and update all subsequent ownership structure period data you added earlier. For example, if you updated the entities, ownership percentage, and book data, then you'll need to update this information for subsequent periods that you added earlier.
- On the Add period or Edit period page, select Activate.
Intacct validates your changes. If validation succeeds, Intacct automatically generates the related consolidation books.
Review, validate, re-activate, re-consolidate
After you add or edit a middle period in an active, consolidated ownership structure, you'll need to:
- Review and validate all subsequent consolidated periods. Changing the data for a middle period can affect the data in periods following that middle period. In the example above, adding or editing a period for March can affect data for April.
- Re-activate the subsequent periods. Because your changes to a period in the middle of the periods defined for the ownership structure can affect subsequent periods, you'll need to re-activate those periods to ensure the data is correct.
- Re-consolidate the ownership structure as needed. If one or more periods subsequent to an edited period were previously consolidated, you'll need to re-consolidate the ownership structure. This is because the consolidation data will have changed as a result of your changes to the middle period.
You'll need to take these actions when you're adding or changing a period in an active, consolidated ownership structure.
- Review and update any data as needed.
- On the Add period or Edit period page, select Activate.
Intacct validates your changes. If validation succeeds, Intacct automatically generates the related consolidation books.
- In the displayed notification, select Continue.
- Go to Consolidation > All > Consolidate structure.
- From the Ownership structure dropdown list, select the ownership structure you want to re-consolidate.
- From the Reporting period range dropdown list, select the date range in which you want to re-consolidate the ownership structure, including the added or edited period and all subsequent periods.
- Select the relevant period and select Consolidate. Subsequent active periods are automatically re-consolidated. For example, if the period of May has changed and June and July are active, then the periods of May, June, and July are re-consolidated.
Delete an ownership structure period
If a period in an ownership structure is incorrect or no longer relevant, you can delete the period from the ownership structure.
- Go to Consolidation > Setup > Ownership structures.
The Ownership structures page is shown.
- Select the ownership structure that you want to delete.
The Ownership structure periods page is shown.

- On the confirmation dialog, select Delete.
Next step: Re-consolidate the period and all subsequent periods in the ownership structure.
Delete the only period in an ownership structure
Deleting the only period in an ownership structure means you cannot consolidate the ownership structure, because the ownership structure will be empty, effectively. You can consolidate the ownership structure later if you add one or more periods to it.
- Go to Consolidation > Setup > Ownership structures.
The Ownership Structures page is shown.
- Select the ownership structure that you want to edit.
The Ownership structure periods page is shown.
- On the Ownership structure periods page, select Delete next to the only period in the ownership structure.
