Editing purchasing transactions that created assets—Fixed Assets Management

After assets are created from purchasing transaction line, most fields on that line are not editable. In certain scenarios, you can change the Asset creation or Number of assets fields. Doing so deletes any previously created assets and creates new ones (provided the assets are eligible for deletion).

An asset can be deleted if it does not have any posted journal entries, such as for depreciation, transfers, or disposals. If the asset already has posted journal entries, consider reverting them.

Fields you can edit

You can edit the following fields on a purchasing transaction that created assets, but only under the conditions listed below.

Number of assets

  • All lines that created assets do not have an allocation.

  • Any previously created assets must be eligible for deletion.

  • These fields must be changed on every line that created assets.

Lines that did not create assets

Add new lines

  • All lines that created assets do not have an allocation.
Header fields

  • All lines that created assets do not have an allocation.

  • Excludes the vendor field (because it is also at the line level)

All other fields on lines that created assets are not editable.

If you need to change a field that isn't editable and the assets are eligible for deletion, you can delete the line or the entire purchasing transaction, which also deletes the assets and bills. Then, recreate the line or transaction with the correct information to regenerate the assets.

What happens when you edit fixed assets fields
