Change a parent location

You can create a hierarchy of locations to reflect how locations are organized within your company. The hierarchy is established by defining parent and child relationships between locations.

Go to Reports > Setup > Dimensions > Locations. Select Add to add a new location, or select Edit or View to edit and view location information.

For locations that are part of a hierarchy of locations but aren't companies with more than one entity that have multiple base currencies, you can change the parent location as long as there are no transactions in the child location. After transactions have been recorded in the child location, the Parent field is no longer editable.

To change a parent location:

Go to Reports > Setup > Dimensions > Locations.
Find the location to change and select Edit.
In the Location section, select the Parent location from the Parent dropdown list.
Select Save.

For companies with more than one entity that also use multiple base currencies, you can't change the parent location. If you need to assign a different parent location, delete the location and recreate it with the new Parent.
