Add an ICRW report to a dashboard—ICRW

Like other reports, Interactive Custom Report Writer (ICRW) reports can be added to a dashboard. Adding an ICRW report to a dashboard provides real-time up to date data every time the dashboard is accessed. Any filters applied to the dashboard also apply to an ICRW report added to the dashboard.

For example, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) might want to see daily sales data. You could create an ICRW report showing results for daily sales and add the report to the dashboard created for the CFO.

For dashboard filters to be applied to an ICRW report, dimensions must be added to the report as prompts, using the dimension ID. For a Location dimension, use the Location ID, for the a Customer dimension, use the Customer ID, and so on.

Adding an ICRW report to a dashboard is a three-step process. Complete the tasks in the order in which they’re presented.

Step 1. Choose an ICRW report and add dimensions

If you do not have an ICRW report to add to a dashboard, you can create one. For more information, see Edit or delete an ICRW report.

Include dimensions as prompts in your ICRW report before adding the report to a dashboard. It's important to specify the dimension ID for the prompt to receive the correct filter results. For example, to filter on a Location dimension, include a Location ID prompt for the column.

Suppose that the dashboard filters on the Location dimension. For the dashboard to filter to produce the correct filtering results for the ICRW report, you need a Location ID prompt for the column.

  1. Go to Reports > All > Advanced > Interactive Custom Reports.

  2. Find the report and select Edit.

  3. Optionally, to add dimensions that you want filtered in the report, go to the Prompts tab, and add a column prompt for each dimension.

For example, add a column prompt for the ID [Location] dimension with the following selections:

    • Operator: is equal to / is in
    • User can select from: Choice List

Step 2. Memorize the ICRW report

Memorizing a report retains the report settings, such as the time period. In addition, memorizing gives a report a name that is used when it is added to dashboards, groups, or scheduled to run on a regular basis.

All reports have to be memorized before they can be added to a dashboard.

  1. Go to Reports > All > Advanced > Interactive Custom Reports.
  2. Find the report that you want to memorize and select Run.
  3. When the report appears, select Memorize in the upper right corner.

You might be prompted for runtime information.

  4. Name the report and optionally enter a unique description for future reference. It does not have to be the same name as the saved report.
  5. Select the Public check box to make the report public, or leave it deselected to keep it private.
Reports that are not Public can be accessed only by the report owner and admin users with the right permissions. Making a report Public enables any user with the right permissions to see and edit the report.
  6. Select OK.

Step 3. Add the report as a dashboard component

You can allow the filters that are applied to the dashboard to be applied to an ICRW report dashboard component. You allow the dashboard filters to be applied by setting the Live view for the ICRW component.
  1. Go to Reports > All > Advanced > Interactive Custom Reports.

  2. Find the report that you want to add to a dashboard and select Run.
  3. Select Add to dashboard in the window menu bar at the top of the page.
  4. On the Add to dashboard parameters dialog, select a dashboard from the dropdown menu. This selection is the dashboard to which the report will be added.
  5. Include a name and optional description for the report.
  6. Select Public to make the report public, or leave the option blank to keep it private. Reports that are not Public can only be accessed by the report owner and admin users with the right permissions. Making a report Public enables any user with the right permissions to see and edit the report.
  7. Select OK.

The Memorized reports page appears, with the newly added report listed. The report also appears when you open the dashboard.
