Gantt chart customization

On the Gantt Chart Customization page, you can change how your Gantt chart displays information. Filter for specific project groups, time periods, or project status. You can also change display options to show different project metrics.

The customization page options are for your individual use and apply only to the chart you view. Each user can customize how they view their own chart as needed.

Access the Gantt chart customization page by selecting Customize on the Summary Gantt Chart or Project Gantt Chart page.

  • For the Summary Gantt chart, go to Projects > All > Project and resource mgmt > Summary Gantt chart and select Customize.
  • For a Project Gantt chart, go to Projects > All > Projects, and select the Gantt chart link for the corresponding project.

Customize your Gantt chart

How you customize your chart depends on your business needs.

To customize your Gantt chart:

  1. Select Customize on the Summary Gantt Chart or Project Gantt Chart page.
  2. On the Gantt Chart Customization page, choose your filters, display options, and colors.
  3. Select Save.
  4. On the Gantt Chart page, select Refresh.

Filter Notes

Project group

Choose the project group for which you want to filter the report. You can also create a new project group by selecting Add in the dropdown.

Show projects from/through

Select the number of days from today to create a relative date range. A project start and end date must be within the range to appear on the chart.

From date/To date

Filter to see projects which have scheduled begin and end dates within a certain window of time.

For example, say you want to see all projects which were started this year. You would enter 1/1/2016 in From date, and 12/31/2016 in To date.

The format must be: MM/DD/YYYY

By default, the chart shows you the first 5 projects which have a begin or end date on the current date, plus or minus one day.

Project manager

Choose the project manager for whom you want to filter the chart.

In the Summary Gantt chart, by default, project managers and employee users only see projects you manage or on which you are assigned as a resource. To see projects managed by a different person, filter for them here.

This filter is only available for project managers and business managers.

Project status

Filter for projects which have been assigned a specific project status.

Customer

Filter for projects under a specific customer.

Show resources

For the Project Gantt chart. Select to display employees and tasks assigned to a project.

By default, the chart does not show resources.

Position chart so Today is visible on load

Decide where to begin your view of the Gantt chart. Select this checkbox to have the chart display project data from the current date. You can scroll back and forth to display data from before and after the current date.

Deselect this checkbox to have the page load from the start date of your first project.

By default, the chart shows you the first 5 projects which have a begin or end date on the current date, plus or minus one day.

Time units

Decide whether you want to see project data by:

  • Days
  • Weeks
  • Months
  • Quarters
  • Years

The default is months.

Time span displayed

The amount of time shown in the right split page of the Gantt chart.

  • 3 months
  • 6 months
  • 1 year
  • 2 years

The default is 3 months.

Show these bars

For the Summary Gantt chart. Choose which project metrics you want to display in your chart:

  • Progress based on estimated hours
  • Actual cost versus budget (Summary Gantt chart)
  • Actual billings versus budget (Summary Gantt chart)
  • Billed revenue margin (Summary Gantt chart)

Maximum number of projects displayed

The default number of projects which display in the a Gantt chart is 5. You can enter a new maximum here.

Colors

You can choose colors for each of the bars on your Gantt chart to help differentiate different financial project metrics and whether they are over budget.

To assign a color to a metric, select the color pallet icon.
