Troubleshoot exporting reports to Excel
Microsoft's security policies can cause problems for some file types (including XLS) when you attempt to export a report to Excel. For example, you might receive a blank page or be unable to open the output file when you export a report to Excel. You might also see an error that the file is corrupt.
How to fix the problem
- Go to Microsoft and install the latest update to Excel. For more information, see Microsoft Support.
After installing the update, you might receive an error message that the file format and extension do not match. You can ignore this message. - In addition to installing the update, you might also need to perform one of following tasks to fix your particular issue.
- Save the report as a CSV file.
- Open the CSV file in Excel.
- Save the file as an XLS file and reformat it if necessary.
- Download the Excel file.
- Right-click the file and select Properties.
- Select Unblock.
- Select OK.
- Export the report and save the file.
- Show your downloads by selecting the downloads arrow in the upper right corner and select Show all downloads.
- Select the icon next to the file.
- Select the Home tab and select Edit. Excel opens with a prompt.
- Select Yes to open the XLS file.
- Export the report and save the file.
- Send the file to yourself as an email attachment.
Now you can download the attachment and open the file.
- Export the file and save it on your computer.
- Locate the file in the folder.
- While holding the SHIFT key, right-click the file name.
- Select Edit. Excel opens with a prompt.
- At the prompt, select Yes.
The file opens as an XLS file.
