Lock closed periods

After you close your books for a statutory reporting period, you can lock the period so that it cannot be changed. The locked period cannot be reopened, and information for the period cannot be changed, even by adjustments. You can then produce official reports for the period with confidence, knowing that the information in your system will remain in agreement with those reports.

  1. Go to General Ledger > All > Books > Close.
  2. If you're at the top level, you can specify the entity or entity group for which you want to lock periods in the Entity or entity group field.

If you do not specify anything in this field, periods are locked for all entities.

  3. In the To the end of period field, select a closed period to lock.

You can lock periods only if they are closed. If you have no closed periods, there is nothing to select in this field.

  4. Select Close books.

All periods up to and including the one you selected are locked.

The date up to which periods are locked is shown in the Closed statutory reporting periods locked up to field. This date is also shown on the Entities page (Company > Setup > Configuration > Entities), in a new Lock closed period column.

You can unlock a period by locking the preceding period (for example, you can unlock 2022 by locking 2021). This is because all periods after the one you lock are unlocked.
