About enhanced lists
Lists display a default set of columns of information that are sorted alphanumerically, for example displaying customers in order based on Customer ID. There's usually more columnar information that does not appear in the default list but can give relevant insight depending on your requirements.
Using a combination of display options, filter criteria, and standard or custom views, you can hone your view of all available data to obtain targeted results.
Columns in motion
Display columns in a list in a logical way to suit your needs. Some options include the following:
-
Add or remove columns and move or resize columns. For example, if you want to view payment priority on the Suppliers list, you can add the Payment priority column and the Term column to the list view. If you want the two columns to appear before or after other columns, you can drag them to the wanted location on the list.
-
Sort on a column by selecting the column name. For example, in the Suppliers list you could sort the Payment priority column to view the priority from the most urgent to least urgent.
-
Freeze a column to always keep it in view as you scroll across a list.
Views any way you want them
Get standard list views, or create custom views that more closely match your unique requirements for insight.
-
Standard views, which come with the list, usually display data in ways that most users access regularly.
-
Custom views are ones that you create by either honing standard views and then saving them as custom views or by creating new views. For example, in the Suppliers list, if you add the Payment Priority and Term columns to your standard list view, then sort the Payment Priority column to see the most urgent priority at the top, you can save the changed view with a unique name, such as "Payment priority list" then access it to view the results as needed.
Each time you open a view, it updates all data that matches the filtering, sorting, and display options saved with the view.
Simple column filtering and list filtering
You can filter from any column or use more advanced filtering that works across all your data. And you can save the filtering criteria into a custom view for repeated use.
For example, if you save a view that displays payment priority for your vendors, you could add the list filter criteria of Total Due to get not only the urgency per supplier, but the amount due.
To further hone the results, on the Total Due column you could filter for amounts due within a certain range. In this example, you combined list filtering with simple column filtering.
If you want to regularly access current data using the combined simple and list filtering, save the view.
