Create a console template

You can create a console template:

  • From scratch: Start with a blank template.

  • From an existing template: Copy a console template that you or your organization already created and update the template.

  • From an existing instance: Copy an existing client or entity to use as a console template and update the template.

Only structural data is copied. No data is copied into the template.

Before you begin

A console template is created in two parts:

  1. Use the Template information page to define the template name and add accounting settings, such as the accounting periods and currency format.

  2. Use the Template setup checklist to do the following:

    • Import the applicable master list items, such as the chart of accounts and account groups.

    • Configure Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, if applicable.

  1. Go to My practice or Console > select Add (circle) next to Templates.

  2. Enter a Template name.

  3. Select a base for the console template.

    • If you select Scratch, you define all structural data completely from the beginning.

    • If you select Existing template, then select an existing console template from the dropdown.

All structural data is copied into the new console template.

    • If you select Existing instance, then select a particular client or entity from the dropdown.

All structural data is copied into the new console template.

If you create the console template from an existing template or instance, you cannot change the Accounting periods. You must accept the default value.
  4. Select the Accounting periods.

If you select Custom, create accounting periods in the new instance.

  5. Select a Reporting method.

  6. If you selected Standard accounting periods, select the First fiscal month.

  7. If you selected Standard accounting periods, select the First tax month.

  8. Select the Currency format.

If you create the console template from an existing template or instance, you cannot change the Primary account no. length, Account field separator, and Subaccount no. length fields. You must accept the default values.
  9. Enter the Primary account no. length. (required)

  10. Enter an Account field separator. (required)

  11. Enter the Subaccount no. length. (required)

For more information about these fields, see Field descriptions: Console templates.
  12. Save your changes.
