Step 1. Create and deploy a user-defined dimension
This topic shows you how to create and deploy a user-defined dimension. After which, you give yourself permissions for the dimension and add the dimension name to the application menu.

1. Create a user-defined dimension
- Go to General Ledger > Setup > Configuration.
- On the General Ledger page, go to Advanced GL options > User-defined dimensions and select Add.
- Under Status options the Object Properties & Attributes: New Object page, select Enable this object as a user defined GL dimension if the option is not already selected.
- Depending on your company type, choose from the following options:
- Enforce journal entry balancing: Displays a message if you add a journal entry to the GL that does not balance by this dimension.
- Autofill related objects: Tells Sage Intacct to autofill information for user-defined dimensions in transactions based on relationships you establish between dimensions.
- Enable override of autofilled objects (Appears when Autofill related objects is enabled) Enables you to override autofilled fields for user-defined dimensions in transactions; otherwise related options are displayed as read-only. This option appears only if you opt to autofill related objects.
- Limit record availability to the creating entity (Multi-entity, shared companies): Enables you to restrict the use of a user-defined dimension/objects to the entity that created it; otherwise, the dimension is available to all entities in the company.
- Enter the Singular name for the new dimension.
- Optionally, change the following automatically populated fields, as desired:
- Plural name: refers to multiples of this type. You might need to edit this name, for example, if the singular name already ends in "s." This name is displayed throughout Intacct, for example on menus and in selection lists.
- Record name: the displayed name across the company on pages, views, selection.
- Integration name: referenced by Intacct internally.
- Continue to deploy the user-defined dimension.
2. Deploy the user-defined dimension
- Enter a helpful Description for the new dimension.
- Optionally, select Audit Trail, Flagging, or Viewed/Unviewed Tracking as necessary.
- Select Create a new menu for this object.
- Go to the Add to applications section and choose the applications to which you want to add the dimension. This should include your User-defined dimension application at a minimum. You can select all or specific custom applications.
- Select Save. The New menu page appears.
- Accept the suggested menu name, or change it as desired.
- Include the applications to which you want to add the object and select Save.
- In the top General Ledger Configuration menu bar, select Save.
- Continue to Give permissions for the user-defined dimension.
3. Give permissions for the user-defined dimension
You need to provide user role permissions for the user-defined dimension. This allows you to view the application in the menu and the new dimension name appears on the Reports page.
- Go to Company > Roles.
- Find your user role and select Subscriptions.
- Go to the Additional dimensions application and select Permissions.
- Select All to give the user role full permissions and then select Save.
- Refresh the browser window and go to Reports.
The new dimension appears under Dimensions. - Continue to add the dimension to the application menu.
4. Add the dimension to the application menu
This task shows you how to make the user-defined dimension appear on the application menu.
- Go to Platform Services > All.
- Under Platform tools, select the plus sign Menus.
- In the top menu bar, select New menu and enter the dimension name.
- Select object as the Menu type, and from the Object dropdown list select the dimension name.
- Scroll to Add to applications and select the User-defined dimensions application checkbox.
- Select Save.
- Continue with the Next step.
Now when you go to User-defined dimension (application) > All, the new dimension name appears under Components for the application.
