Edit a customer

You can edit customers even if they have been used in a transaction. However, transactions that have already been created contain the information for the customer at the time it was posted. Posted transactions will not pick up the changes to the customer, only new transactions and records will refer to the updated information.

  1. Go to Accounts ReceivableAll > Customers.

  2. Find the customer that you want to edit.
  3. Select Edit at the end of the row.

Can't find the customer you want to edit? If you want to include one-time use customers, add the One-time use column and then clear the filter at the top of the column. To include inactive customers, clear the filter at the top of the Status column to include Active, Inactive, and Active non-posting customers.

  4. Make your changes.

See Field descriptions: Customers for more information about the different fields.

  5. Select Save.

Edit customer contact information in a transaction

If you notice that the customer contact information is incorrect on a transaction, or perhaps the transaction uses the wrong contact entirely, then you can edit or change the contact from the transaction itself. This is simple to do if you notice the error during the creation of the transaction, but keep in mind that editing customer contact information only affects the current transaction being created and future transactions.

If you already saved and posted the transaction, editing or changing a contact becomes more complicated. Depending on the type of transaction and the state of the transaction, you may have to reverse the transaction before you can make any changes to the transaction record, including changes to the associated contact record that apply to the existing transaction.

See Edit contact information used in a transaction for more detailed information and step-by-step instructions.
