Hierarchical vs. flat company structure display—Consoles

Each client or entity is an instance of Sage Intacct.

You can configure the console to display instances in the Manage instances list and the My instances list in a hierarchical or flat view.

Console users access their assigned instances by sliding in through the console to perform accounting and implementation tasks.

Hierarchical

The hierarchical view shows a graphical representation of how instances are related within the console.

In this view, console users can slide directly in to other companies. It results in multiple external user IDs for the same external user in one company.

In the illustration above, there is a multi-entity company with at least one subordinate entity linked to the Accountant console. Using this example, a console user could slide in to Entity #1 in two different ways:

  • Slide in to Management console #1 and then slide in to Entity #1 from there.
  • Slide directly in to Entity #1 from the Accountant console.

The BBaggins console user could have two different external user IDs in Entity #1:

  • ExtUser|AccountantConsole|ManagementConsole#1|BBaggins
  • ExtUser|AccountantConsole|BBaggins

Each ExtUser ID could have different permissions. Learn about External user permissions.

Flat

The flat view shows instances that are directly linked to the console. It does not show subordinate entities.

If a console user needs to access a subordinate entity linked to Management console #1, the console user would slide in to Management console #1. Then, the console user would slide in to the subordinate entity.

  1. Go to My practice or Console > All > More > and select Configuration.
