Step 2. Add values to a user-defined dimension

Dimension values are records that provide the ability to slice and dice data for in-depth analysis. For example, for a dimension called Toys, you might want to add values for Donated, Grants, and Drives to provide data in each of these categories.

This topic is the second step in creating a new user-defined dimension. For more information, see the following topic:

Step 1. Create and deploy a user-defined dimension.

Add values to a dimension

You can add values to a user-defined dimension at any time by following this procedure.

Dimension value IDs must be unique. Best practice is not to rely on capitalization alone (for example, MKTG and Mktg) to make a value unique.
Dimension value IDs can contain only alphanumeric characters and underscores. See Name and ID creation—best practice for more.
  1. Go to your Reports > Setup > Dimensions.
  2. Select Add (circle) next to the dimension to which you want to add a value.
  3. Enter a unique value name.
  4. Do one of the following:
    1. To add a single value, select Save.
    2. To save the value and add another, select Save & new, then select Save when done.
  5. Verify the list of dimension values.

Verify the list of dimension values

You can easily view and verify a list of values assigned to a dimension.

  1. Go to User-defined dimensions (application) > All.
  2. Under Components, select the dimension name.
A list of values assigned to the dimension appears.
  3. Continue with the Next step.
