Step 3. Make a user-defined dimension available

A view is a group of dimension values that defines the data that appears in reports when the dimension is used. You make a dimension view Public so it can be used by others in reports.

This topic is the last step in creating a new user-defined dimension. For more information, see the following topics:

Step 1. Create and deploy a user-defined dimension.

Step 2. Add values to a user-defined dimension.

Additional fees might apply for some dimensions, including user-defined dimensions. Contact your account representative for more information.

For information on terms that may differ in your location, see Terminology across locales.

Create a dimension view and make it public

This task shows you how to create a view for a user-defined dimension, and then make it publicly available to others.

  1. Go to your User-defined dimensions application > All.
  2. Under Components, select the dimension name.
  3. In the upper left corner of the top menu bar, select New view.
  4. Enter a unique View name and Display label in the respective fields.
  5. Next to View is, select Public - for use in reports to make the dimension publicly available.
  6. Scroll to Columns and select the dimension name to be included in the view. Then select other columns to be included in the view, as necessary.
  7. Under Sorting and grouping, choose to Group by the dimension name, then select Sort by options.
  8. Optionally, set View filters conditions.
  9. Select Save.
After you save a dimension view, the dimension appears as a report structure. You can view the report structure by going to General Ledger > All > Financial report structures > Dimensions structures.

You can create multiple views for a single user-defined dimension. Dimension views allow you to analyze different aspects of your data. For more information, see Create additional user-defined dimension views.

Make a new user-defined dimension available in ICRW

Interactive Custom Report Writer (ICRW) provides the ability to immediately reflect new user-defined dimensions in ICRW and add it to a report.

The Reload Server Metadata feature refreshes the connection between ICRW and its metadata. This is particularly useful when adding a new custom field or user-defined dimension into Intacct. Reload Server Metadata ensures that the new custom field or user-defined dimension is reflected in ICRW immediately.

The Reload Server Metadata option is only available for ICRW reports that use a single reporting area. This option is not available for ICRW reports with custom SQL.

This topic shows you how to use the Reload Server Metadata option so you can immediately see a new user-defined dimension in ICRW and add it to a report.

  1. Open the ICRW report to Edit.
  2. Expand the folders in the Reporting Areas panel.
  3. On the Reporting Areas heading, select the Refresh icon (two semi-circle arrows), and choose Reload Server Metadata from the dropdown menu.

When the reload is complete, the reporting area folders collapse to the default view. The default view indicates that the user-defined dimension is available to be added to a report.

Make a private dimension view publicly available

  1. Go to your User-defined dimensions application > All.
  2. Under Components, select the dimension name.
  3. Select the checkbox next to the dimension view that you want to make public.
  4. In the top menu bar, select Edit view.
  5. In the View name section next to View is, select Public - for use in reports.
  6. Optionally, edit the columns included in the view, sort and group fields, and filters as desired.
  7. Save the dimension.
After you make your user-defined dimension available, you can run GL and financial reports using user-defined dimensions in the same way you would a standard dimension. For more information, see
