Place or release a bill on hold

You can place a bill on hold to exclude it from the Pay bills list and prevent it from being paid. For example, you might want to place a bill on hold if the dollar amount is wrong, or your company is disputing the bill, or you simply didn't receive the goods.

After the issue is resolved, you can release the hold. The bill is included in the Pay bills list, if it is posted.

Place a bill on hold

1. Go to Accounts Payable > All > Bills.

2. Find the bill that you want to place on hold.

3. Select More actions > Edit at the end of the row.

4. On the Transaction tab, select Place this bill on hold.
5. Select Submit or Post.

Release a bill on hold

1. Go to Accounts Payable > All > Bills.

2. Find the bill that you want to release from hold.
3. Select More actions > Edit at the end of the row.
4. On the Transaction tab, deselect Place this bill on hold.
5. Select Submit or Post.

Cannot place a bill on hold?

For bills in the following states, you need to take an additional step before you can place them on hold.

states that do not support placing the on hold

State	Resolution
Submitted	For bills that have been submitted for approval and are not partially approved, you can recall the bill and then edit it.
Partially approved	Ask the next approver to decline the bill, then edit the bill to place it on hold.
Selected	If the bill is selected for payment, return it to the posted state before placing it on hold. Learn how to Cancel a payment request (Deselect bills to pay)
Paid	You cannot place a bill on hold after you paid it in full. Partially paid bills can be placed on hold.
