After editing the base dimension to enable autofilling of related objects, you're ready to create the relationships between the two dimensions.

| Previous step |
- Find the base dimension again and select the link on the dimension name. To continue with the example of location based on customer, select Customer. The Object Definition page appears.
- At the top of the page, select Relationships from the links, or scroll down to the Relationships section.
- Select New relationship at the top of the section. The New relationship page appears for the selected dimension.
- Select the dimension with which you want to create the relationship and select Next. For example, you could select Location. You can select either a standard or user-defined dimension.
- On the next page, which defines the relationship you just created, for example, Customer: New relationship with Location page, select the Relationship Type. Each type is described here and on the page itself. Many-to-Many is the most common relationship type. More about dimension relationships
Dimension relationships are reciprocal. For example, creating a relationship from customer to location is the same as creating a relationship from location to customer. What distinguishes relationships is the relationship type. The relationship type determines the pick list that you create in the related object. For example, in the relationship between Customer and Location, if you pick a 1-to-1 relationship, in the Customer record, you can pick just 1 value for the location.
- One customer to One Location
- Each customer can be related to, at most, 1 location
- Each location can be related to, at most, 1 customer
- One Customer to Many Locations
- Each customer can be related to many locations
- Each location can be related to, at most, 1 customer
- Many Customers to One Location
- Each customer can be related to, at most, 1 location
- Each location can be related to many customers
- Many Customers to Many Locations
- Each customer can be related to many locations
- Each location can be related to many customers
Autofill does not work in many-to-many relationships.Autofill works with “to-one” relationships. It’s used in the UI only, in order to make entry faster.
With autofill enabled, the values you set are included when you enter the first value in a transaction entry line or in transaction entry defaults section. That means that the autofill happens only from direct entry.
Entering the first value any other way tells Intacct not to send the autofill instruction to complete the other fields.
- One customer to One Location
- Select Save to confirm the relationship.
