Define consolidation rules for a period
Enter consolidation rules for the ownership structure period. The consolidation rules are similar to the consolidation book details that you use in a typical consolidation.
For each parent entity, define:
- Book information: Enter a consolidation book name and description and select a reporting currency for the book.
- Translation methods: Select the balance sheet and income statement accounts for the book.
- CTA accounts: Cumulative Translation Adjustment. Select net assets and net income accounts.
- Statistical journal details: Enter a statistical journal symbol and name.
- Elimination details: Select the elimination entity and elimination adjustment account.

- If you created a new ownership structure and selected Save and continue, you're already on the Add a new period page.
Otherwise, skip this step and proceed to the next step.
- Go to Consolidation > Setup > Ownership structures.
- Select the ownership structure that you want to edit.
The Ownership Structure periods for <Ownership structure name> page are shown.
- Select Edit next to the ownership structure period that you want to edit.
The Period <date> for ownership structure name text page is shown.
- Select Consolidation rules.
- Select each Parent entity to display the Show details link.
- Select Show details and enter the following:
- Subsidiary entities for the parent entity.
- Percent ownership for each subsidiary.
- Consolidation method for each subsidiary.
- Ownership accounts such as net income attributable to NCI, equity attributable to NCI, and so on.
- Select Consolidation rules to enter the consolidation rules for the parent entity.
- For each parent entity, enter a Book name and Book description, then select the Currency for the book.
As you enter details, Intacct fills in details such as the translation methods for the balance sheet and income statement accounts, and the statistical journal symbol and name.
- Enter the remaining book details for the ownership structure period as described in Field descriptions: Ownership structure periods and Consolidation rules.
- Select Next row to proceed to the next parent entity and define the book details for that parent entity.
- Select Activate to save and activate the ownership structure period.
- If you created a new ownership structure and selected Save and continue, you're already on the Add a new period page.
Otherwise, skip this step and proceed to the next step.
- Go to Consolidation > Setup > Ownership structures.
- Select Structure period next to the ownership structure that you want to edit.
The Ownership Structure periods for <Ownership structure name> page are shown.
- Select More > Edit next to the ownership structure period that you want to edit.
The Period <date> for ownership structure name text page is shown.
- Select Consolidation rules.
- Select each Parent entity to display the Show details link.
- Select Show details and enter the subsidiary entities for the parent entity and the percent ownership for each subsidiary.
- Select Show details and enter the following:
- Subsidiary entities for the parent entity.
- Percent ownership for each subsidiary.
- Consolidation method for each subsidiary.
- Ownership accounts such as net income attributable to NCI, equity attributable to NCI, and so on.
- Select Consolidation rules to enter the consolidation rules for the parent entity.
- For each parent entity, enter a Book name and Book description, then select the Currency for the book.
As you enter details, Intacct fills in details such as the translation methods for the balance sheet and income statement accounts, and the statistical journal symbol and name.
- Enter the remaining book details for the ownership structure period as described in Field descriptions: Ownership structure periods and Consolidation rules.
- Select Next row to proceed to the next parent entity and define the book details for that parent entity.
- Select Activate to save and activate the ownership structure period.

Edit consolidation books related to an ownership structure
After defining a consolidation book for an entity, you can edit the book as needed. For example, you can add accounts to override or edit the elimination account.
You can edit the consolidation books directly on the Book setup page.
