Edit MEA revenue schedules

When a contract line participates in an MEA allocation, it may either give revenue to or receive revenue from other contract lines. This changes the total revenue for the contract line as of the MEA effective date. If the contract line participates in a subsequent MEA allocation, the total revenue changes again as of the new MEA effective date.

While you can edit revenue scheduled to post between MEA allocations, the kinds of changes you can make are restricted to ensure that the revenue data is reclassified correctly when a posting event occurs.

Edit amounts and scheduled posting dates

When a contract line participates in at least one MEA allocation, you can't move revenue amounts that resulted from a particular MEA allocation to a date before or after the MEA allocation's effective date range.

An MEA allocation's effective date range is the MEA allocation's effective date through the next MEA allocation's effective date minus one.

If there's only one MEA allocation, the MEA allocation's effective date range is the MEA allocation's effective date through the revenue template end date.

For example, say you have a straight-line contract line with a flat/fixed amount of 120.00 that starts on 01/01 and ends on 12/31. You create MEA allocation #1 dated 02/01 and include the contract line. The contract line has a revenue total of 130.00 effective as of 02/01. Then you add on to the contract and create MEA allocation #2 dated 04/01. The contract line has a total of 110.00 effective as of 04/01.

The effective date range for the revenue total of 130.00 associated with MEA allocation #1 is 02/01 through 03/31.

The effective date range for the revenue total of 110.00 associated with MEA allocation #2 is 04/01 through 12/31.

The revenue schedule looks like the following:

Say you try to edit the revenue schedule to move 2.00 from the amount scheduled 03/31 to the amount scheduled on 04/30. Sage Intacct displays an error as the 2.00 is tied to the 130.00 amount total that's effective from 02/01 - 03/31.

You can move 2.00 from the amount scheduled 03/31 to the amount scheduled on 02/28 as that amount is associated with the same MEA allocation revenue total of 130.00.

You can move amounts scheduled after 04/01 to any date through 12/31 as desired as the 110.00 revenue total is effective 04/01 - 12/31.

This example uses the MEA Adjustment type = Distributed. The restriction is the same when the Adjustment type = One-time.

See Revenue schedules for more information.

Edit Completed schedules that are part of a subsequent MEA

You can include a contract line with a completed revenue schedule in a subsequent MEA allocation effective after the contract line's revenue schedule ended. In this scenario, the system auto-posts an adjustment entry that reverses the previously recognized revenue amount for the ended line and creates a scheduled entry for the newly allocated amount. Both adjustment entries are dated with the applicable MEA allocation's Effective date. See Example 5 in MEA allocation examples for details.

Note the following expected behavior:

  • If there are open periods of revenue in a revenue schedule that will end before the subsequent MEA allocation Effective date, you must post the revenue prior to creating the MEA allocation.
  • You cannot clear the reversing adjustment entry that resulted from the MEA allocation process from the completed contract line because it is tied to the MEA allocation. If you want to clear the reversing adjustment, clear the MEA allocation.
  • The posting date for the newly allocated revenue amount for the completed contract line must be on or after the MEA Effective date.
  • You can edit the completed contract line's revenue schedule manually to change the posting date for the newly allocated revenue amount or divide it into multiple revenue periods. However, the system will override any edits if you create another MEA allocation.
