Customization Services vs Platform Services

Customization Services and Platform Services both allow you to extend Sage Intacct, but in different ways.

Customization Services

Customization Services gives you tools to extend Intacct data and objects. You can add fields and create and run custom reports on your data. In addition, you can send automated emails or create rules and warnings that guide users along your unique business processes. For example, a property management company might want to add a field to the Location record to store the number of units in each property.

Platform Services

Platform Services gives you tools for building solutions that can access and work with custom data as well as standard Intacct application data. The Platform allows you to create custom data objects and then create forms, pages, and actions that access those objects. For example, a human resource manager might create an application that tracks employee benefit programs and also integrates with employee information already in your system.

You can subscribe to either Customization Services or Platform Services. If you subscribe to Customization Services and switch to Platform Services, Platform Services replaces Customization Services in the menu. However, the Platform Services menu also includes options, like custom fields, that the Customization Services menu offers.

Platform Services includes everything in Customization Services but also has features for developers:

Applications, conditions and formulas, merge fields, ajax sdk, custom objects, standard objects, and customization services all comprise platform services.

Note the following:

  • When creating a Platform Services application, include standard object customizations with it; do not provide a separate customization package.

  • Injections in Customization Services are similar to merge fields in Platform Services.

  • Custom list views and standard object pages cannot be imported from customization packages.

  • With Platform Services, you can use custom or standard object pages.
