Projects applications and dimensions
Sage Intacct offers varying levels of project tracking. Your business can grow into more capability over time. Functionality varies by level of subscription.
Choose from the following options to manage projects with enhanced accuracy and efficiency.
- Basic Project Tracking (the Project dimension): Tracks projects for reporting purposes.
- Project Costing: Breaks projects into tasks and tracks the entirety of project costs.
This application includes Basic project tracking, Time, and Expenses, and Task Tracking, allowing you to assign tasks to transactions and record expenses at the task level for reporting purposes. - Project Costing and Billing: Tracks project costs and Generate invoices.
This application is bundled with Resource Management, allowing you to track tasks, manage resources, and forecast and usage reporting. - Grants Tracking and Billing: Tracks costs and resources for nonprofit businesses.
This application includes Basic Project Tracking, Time, and Expenses.

Basic Project Tracking
Basic Project Tracking, also known as the Project dimension, provides the following functionality:
- Create project records with descriptive elements.
- Tag select financial transactions, such as AP bills, purchasing transactions, AR invoices, Order Entry transactions, and journal entries with a project ID for financial reporting.
- Categorize projects and assign a status and project type.
- Organize projects hierarchically into parent and child projects (up to 5 levels deep) and view the relationships are in the Projects list.

Enable Basic Project Tracking
Basic Project Tracking is the Project dimension which you can enable in the following way:
- Go to General Ledger > Setup > Configuration.
- Under Dimension Settings, find Project and select the Enable check box.
- Select Save.
Project Costing
Project Costing includes Basic Project Tracking capabilities plus Time, Expenses, and Task Tracking. This bundle provides the following functionality:
Project Costing and Billing includes the features of Project Tracking plus
- Break projects into tasks.

Record costs associated with project time.
Task Tracking
Task Tracking provides dimension capabilities with the following functionality:
- Manage task transactions for General Ledger tracking and reporting purposes.
- Capture task data for projects easily as you enter transactions.
- Access fields on the Project information and Additional information pages.

Enable Project Costing and Task Tracking
You enable Project Costing when you subscribe to the Project dimension.
- Go to General Ledger > Setup > Configuration.
- Under the Dimension Settings section, find Project and select the Enable check box.
- Select Save.
You enable Task Tracking when you subscribe to the Task dimension.
- Go to General Ledger > Setup > Configuration.
- Under the Dimension Settings section, find Task and select the Enable check box.
- Select Save.
Project Costing and Billing
Project Costing and Billing includes Basic Project Tracking, plus Resource Management and the ability to bill projects to provide the following functionality:
- Utilize materials billing, scheduled billing, fixed price billing, percent complete billing, and milestone billing.
- Access the functionality of Project Costing.
- Track resource skill and certification.
- Analyze resources and assignments, utilization, and forecasting.
- Access the functionality of Basic Project tracking.
- Access Sage Intelligent Time for AI-powered web and mobile timekeeping with suggested time entries and Time & Expense.
- Present Project profitability reports in dashboards or download to your desktop.
- Generate invoices for the following project types: Time and Materials, Scheduled, Fixed price, Percent complete, and Milestone.
Resource Management
Resource Management is included with Project Costing and Billing and provides the following additional functionality:
- Operational and financial Gantt charts with drill-down capabilities
- Assignment of resource skills and certification
- Ability to find resources and assignments
- Resource availability analysis
- Out-of-office tracking
- Forecast and usage reporting
Enable Project Costing and Billing and Resource Management
You enable Project Costing and Billing when you subscribe to Projects.
- Enable Project Costing.
- Go to Company > Admin > Subscriptions, find Projects in the list.
- Select the Projects button to enable the subscription, then select Configure.
- Under the Billable options, select the Enable project billing check box.
- Select Save.
You enable Resource Management when you subscribe to Projects.
- Enable Task Tracking.
- Go to Company > Admin > Subscriptions, find Projects in the list.
- Select the Projects
- Under the Project and resource management, select the Enable project and resource management check box.
- Select Save.
Grant Tracking and BIlling
Grant Tracking and Billing includes the features of Project Costing and Billing, along with Time, and Expenses. Grant Tracking and Billing provides the following functionality for nonprofit (not-for-profit, NFP) organizations:
- Create records with descriptive elements.
- Tag select financial transactions with specific grant information for reimbursement requests.
- Create grant or contract invoices, as needed.
- Perform data analysis and create grant reports and dashboards.
- Tag transactions as qualified or non-qualified expenses on a grant.
- Track ALN information for SEFA reporting.
