Create Dimension Default Groups

The Dimension Default Groups in Salesforce contain default values that are applied to your journal entries when they’re created. The Dimension Default Group configuration is included in the Advanced CRM Integration package installed in Salesforce.

Dimension Default Groups

Dimension Default Groups are assigned to the Journal and Journal Entry Mapping records you create. When a journal entry in Salesforce is created, information from the Dimension Default Group is used to populate the dimension fields on the journal entry.

For example, you can track a program with matching account and class dimensions by creating a Dimension Default Group with this information pre-defined. After you've set the field defaults, use field mapping to link the Dimension Default Group's definitions with the source transaction. This group can also define varying dimensional values like location for individual donations. The resulting journal entry incorporates dimensional values from both the source transaction and the Dimension Default Group.

If you want to split transactions across multiple dimensions, you can extend the Dimension Default Group with Allocation Default Groups.

Create a Dimension Default Group

Create as many Dimension Default Groups as needed for your organization.

To create a Dimension Default Group:

The following steps are for the Salesforce Classic UI.

  1. Log in to Salesforce as an administrator.
  2. Go to the Dimension Default Group tab in the navigation bar and select New.
  3. Enter a Name for your Dimension Default Group.
  4. Enter any other dimension information that you want to be autofilled on your journal entry. For example, select values for the Intacct Journal, Account Debit and Credit, location, and department associated with the transactions.
  5. Save your changes.

Allocation Default Groups

Allocation Default Groups are used to allocate a transaction across multiple dimensions. For example, you can create an Allocation Default Group when you need to split a transaction across two class dimensions with a 60/40 split.

Allocation Default Groups need:

  • The associated Dimension Default Group Type to be set to Percentage.
  • The percent allocated must total 100%.
  • The Intacct Debit and Credit accounts are included on the Allocation Default Group record.

Create an Allocation Default Group

Allocation Default Groups must be associated with a Dimension Default Group. If you do not already have a Dimension Default Group, make one before creating an Allocation Default Group.

To create an Allocation Default Group:

  1. Log in to Salesforce as an administrator.
  2. Go to the Allocation Default Group tab in the navigation bar and select New.
  3. Enter a Name for the Allocation Default Group.
  4. Find the Dimension Default Group you wan to associate with your Allocation Default Group.
  5. To associate an Allocation Default Group with a Dimension Default Group, the Dimension Default Group must have Type set to Percentage.
  6. Set a Percent.
To split a transaction between two departments, create one Allocation Default Group with Percent set to 50% and Department set to Department A. You would then create a second Allocation Default Group with a Percent set to 50% and Department set to Department B.
  7. Set the Intacct Allocation Debit and Intacct Allocation Credit fields.
  8. Save your changes.
