Troubleshoot Copilot Variance Analysis

The following table lists the most common problems that you can encounter when working with Copilot Variance Analysis and provides possible solutions.

I do not see the Copilot icon in Sage Intacct.

This can occur when:

I do not see the Variance Analysis option in the Copilot panel.

On the Configure Copilot Variance Analysis page, there's a Notify whom section with a list of options that includes the following options:

  • Unrestricted user

  • Unrestricted user group

  • Location manager—Available if the (Analyze by) Location checkbox is selected.

  • Department manager—Available if the (Analyze by) Department checkbox is selected.

To run copilot, you must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Be the unrestricted user or member of the unrestricted user group

  • Be set up as a location or department manager if analyzing by location or department

I do not see data for a certain department, location, or entity.

If you're a business unit manager, you must be specified as the manager on each applicable department, location, or entity record to receive notifications and view dimension-level data.

Verify that you're assigned as a manager to the applicable dimension records. See Assign managers to dimensions.

Verify that you have the applicable permissions.

If you're a manager of more than one business unit, Copilot displays insight cards for each individual dimension. To view insight cards for additional dimension records, select the Show next button on the first insight card.

I do not see data for the entire organization.

If you should have access to data for the entire organization, ask your Sage Intacct administrator to verify that you're either:

An unrestricted user is a finance leader who has access to budget and actual information for the entire organization, like a controller or CFO. Your company can have a single unrestricted user or a group of unrestricted users. Follow your internal business processes to determine who should have access to this data.

The variance analysis does not include a specific GL account in its evaluation.

Copilot Variance Analysis evaluates the GL accounts included in the Net operating income, Revenue, Cost of revenue, and Operating expenses account groups specified in the Configure Copilot Variance Analysis page.

Verify that the desired GL account is a member of the applicable account groups.

The insight does not match my financial report.

Copilot Variance Analysis insights are based on the Dimension balances report. There are a few reasons why the data from that report can differ from your financial reports:

  • The Copilot insight data is calculated as of the prior month while the financial report is calculated as of the year to date.

  • The insight data is considering the budget for the entire month. The financial report considers data through the specific day of the month and prorates the budget amount on a daily basis.

For example, your budget for the month of August is $10,000, and the date is August 25.

    • The insight considers the budget for the entire month of August—$10,000.

    • The financial report considers the budget through August 25—$8,064.52. That amount is calculated as: 10,000 / 31 * 25

The Insights pane displays "There are no insights right now."

Copilot generates insights via an overnight process that runs at a configured frequency, which can be daily, weekly, or at the end of the month. The process starts at midnight relative to your company's configured timezone.

The following are scenarios where there can be no insights in the Insight pane:

  • If the scheduled process does not find anything significant, it does not generate an insight.
  • If your notification frequency is set to Weekly or End of the month, the scheduled process might not have run yet. Check the notification frequency in the Configure Copilot Variance Analysis page.
