Deactivate user-defined dimensions

You have the following options for making a user-defined dimension unavailable:

  • Deactivate a user-defined dimension: Turn off a dimension that's not used in transactions and not associated with GL accounts.
  • Remove user-defined dimension ties to other elements: You can disassociate a dimension from any relationships.
  • Delete a view from a user-defined dimension: Permanently delete a user-defined dimension view.
  • Delete a user-defined dimension and its records: Permanently delete a user-defined dimension and its related records.
Before performing these tasks, it’s recommend that you contact your account representative.

Deactivate a General Ledger user-defined dimension

To find a user-defined dimension quickly, enter the dimension name in the Object text field in the top menu bar.
  1. Go to Platform Services > Objects.
  2. Find the dimension in the Objects list, and Edit beside the dimension name.
  3. Under Status options, deselect both Enable this object as a user defined GL dimension and This object is deployed.
  4. Select Save.

The user-defined dimension is now disabled for the General Ledger.

Remove a user-defined dimension relationship

If you do not require using a specific user-defined dimension in data requirements, you can remove any relationships, account associations, and smart rules that are tied to the user-defined dimension.

An error can occur at the time of posting if you delete a dimension relationship that's being used in a transaction, or recurring transaction.
  1. Go to Platform Services > All > Objects.
  2. Find and select the dimension name in the list.
  3. Go to the Relationships section and select the dimension relationship.
  4. Under Action, select the Del link next to the relationship name.
  5. Select the checkbox beside, Yes, I want to complete this action and select Delete.

Delete a view from a dimension

You are not allowed to delete a user-defined dimension. However, you can delete views from a dimension.

  1. Go to Reports > Setup and select the dimension containing the item you want to delete.
  2. Select the Edit view checkbox next to the view name.
  3. At the far right of the top menu bar, select Delete.
  4. Select the checkbox beside, Yes, I want to complete this action and select Delete.

Refresh your browser window to verify that the view was deleted.

Delete a user-defined dimension

  1. Go to Platform Services > Objects.
  2. Find and select the dimension object name in the object list.
  3. Under Object properties, deselect the Deploy checkbox.
  4. Go to the top menu bar to the far right of the Object definition, select Delete object and all records.
  5. Select the checkbox beside, Yes, I want to complete this action.
  6. Select Delete.
