Basic information
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name |
Required to preview or save the graph. However, you can change the name of the graph after saving. The graph name appears on the Graphs list only, not on the graph itself. |
| Status |
Active graphs appear in the Graphs list and can be viewed or added to a dashboard. Select Inactive to hide a graph. To see the inactive graphs later, select the Include inactive checkbox in the Graphs list. |
Data series: Primary and Compare
All graph types are required to have at least a Primary data series. A Compare data series is optional, and is available for all graph types except for pie, doughnut, and waterfall.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
|
Data series dropdown menu |
Use the first dropdown menu to select the type of data series. The options for both series are the same, except that Compare data series can be set to None. Learn about the options for data series. |
| Available and Selected |
If you select Account groups, Reporting periods, or Budget comparison, selection boxes appear for you to select what you want to include in the graph. Example: Suppose that you want to show revenue and expenses. To do this, select "Account groups" from the dropdown menu, then move your revenue and expenses account groups from Available to Selected. |
Available only if the data series is set to Reporting periods. The Trend comparison checkbox enables you to select a single "current" reporting period and create comparisons across multiple consecutive periods.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
|
Trend comparison |
Select to display the options for period comparison. Available only if the data series is set to Reporting periods. |
|
Reporting period and Compare by |
When you select the Trend comparison checkbox, the Available and Selected boxes change to a dropdown menu. From the dropdown menu, choose a reporting period to use as the basis for a comparison. Options include:
|
| Expand into |
Expands the selected reporting period into smaller segments, such as expanding Current Year into four quarters. Not available for partial "To Date" reporting periods, such as "Current Year To Date." |
| Show trend for |
Shows a trend (future or past) from the selected reporting period.
Example: To compare data over the past 6 months, choose Current Month as the reporting period and show a trend for -5 periods. If the reporting period is Today, an additional option appears for you to select whether to Compare to the same day in prior or future Years/Quarters/Months/Weeks/Days.
|
| Sort by timeline | Shows the difference across the same "Compare by" for different periods, for example, show the same quarter for the current year and the previous year. This is useful when comparing seasonal trends and revenues. Only available when Expand by is selected. |
Additional parameters
Use the Additional parameters section of the General Ledger graph page to finish selecting the data to show in the graph.
Depending on your data series, some required data might already be known. For example, if Reporting periods is selected as data series, you don't need to select a reporting period.
To display a graph, we need to know what type of financial data to include and the time period.
- Reporting period: Defines the time period, such as Current Quarter or Prior Year.
- Account group: Determines the financial or statistical data to be shown, such as Revenue or Headcount.
- Values: Although the default is to show Actual values, you can show values from a budget instead.

Basic options
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| As of date |
Graph data is affected by the combination of reporting period and As of date. For example, Current Year with an As of date of 10/12/15 is the Year ending 12/31/15,
|
| Reporting book |
Applies if multiple reporting books are enabled for your company.
|
Display options
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Rounding |
The default is No Rounding, which displays all amounts to the penny. Alternatively, you can simplify the numbers by choosing Whole number, Thousands, or Millions, which rounds all amounts to the nearest unit. |
| Include period in header |
Applies to graphs that include reporting periods as a data series. When displaying reporting periods, includes the period interval in the name as in Month ending 03/31/16 rather than just 03/31/16. |
| Hide zero numbers |
Removes data points that have no value, such as a column or pie chart segment that has a R0.00 balance. For example, suppose that you want to compare Project Profitability for the previous quarter, but you have a lot of projects. With Hide zero numbers, the graph includes only projects that had a profit (either positive or negative) during the reporting period. This option has no effect when using a graph to show budget data, because budget items with no value or zero value are always hidden.
|
| Show currency or UOM |
Applies to graphs when the primary data series is Account groups and all the groups use the same currency or unit of measurement (UOM). Shows or hides the currency symbol or UOM on the graph. This option is selected by default. For example, for GL account groups, show the currency symbol on the graph, or for computational account groups, the UOM is shown. For statistical account groups and categories, deselect this option to show no currency. |
Filters
The Filters section of the General Ledger Graph page lets you refine data based on dimension, such as by location, department, item, customer, or project. Options appear for all dimensions that are enabled in your company.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Dimension dropdown menus |
By default, graphs show data for all dimension members. For example, a revenue graph would show revenue from all locations, customers, and projects.
For data series that are based on a dimension, filtering for a dimension group enables you to control the data points in the graph. For example, suppose that you want to show revenue by location but don't want to include all locations. To do this, filter for a location group that includes the locations you want to see on the graph.
|
| Display |
Displays the filter when the graph is viewed |
| Include subdimensions |
Includes data from subdimensions, such as child locations or child customers. Deselect this checkbox if you don't want to include children of the dimension. For example, if you are graphing revenue by customer and some customers have subsidiaries that you are tracking as child customers, you might want to deselect the Include subdimensions checkbox so that revenue calculations aren't skewed by the subsidiaries. |
