Timesheets overview

Why use timesheets?

  • Ensure workers are paid appropriately.
  • Track time spent on client projects versus overhead or internal projects.
  • Invoice the client accurately (if worker time is billed back to the client).

Who uses timesheets?

For individual project workers, timesheets are easy to use and take only minutes to fill out. Individuals can save a partially-completed timesheet as a draft, then finish and submit later. They can also edit a timesheet that has already been submitted and partially-approved, like a timesheet that has at least one line item that has been approved, add additional lines or hours to it, and then resubmit the same timesheet to be approved again.

Business and admin managers can set maximum or minimum hours to be worked on a daily or weekly basis.

Project Managers can do the following:

  • Control who can enter time for a project.
  • Control the specific tasks to which a project worker can enter time.
  • Open a project up so that anyone can enter time for it. This is most useful for overhead or indirect projects.
  • Approve (or decline) an entire timesheet in one select, or approve (or decline) individual entries.
