Work with DDS objects

The Data Delivery Service (DDS) allows you to set up automated or manual data deliveries. First, you select the objects to include in the data export. Objects are part of the Platform Services application.

You do not need access to Platform Services to view and select objects. You do need permissions to access detailed views of an object, however.

You can select transactional objects, non-transactional objects, and custom objects. You can choose to export all data, or only the changed records in each object. DDS then exports all records in each object to a .csv file, or only the changed records in each object to a .csv file.

How are objects grouped?

Objects are grouped into logical areas. You are not limited to selecting objects from one group. You can select multiple objects from different groups for an export. Custom objects appear at the top, followed by objects related to individual applications, such as Accounts Receivable.

Find object information

You can do the following to determine the data an object contains:

  • View the fields to be included. Most often, this information is enough to determine if you want to include the object. Select the magnifying glass icon to the right of the object name to see a list of fields in the object.
  • Select the object name to open an object view page. From this page, you see complete information about the object. This level of detail requires that you have Platform Services and the associated permissions.
  • Select View in the object row to see the object history. If there's no previous delivery, the object history is blank.

Common objects to include

Deciding which objects to include in a delivery depends primarily on the reason for exporting the records and your corporate requirements. The following are some commonly used groupings:

Custom objects

When you include custom objects in DDS deliveries, be aware of the following:

  • Fields that contain more than 53 characters are not included in DDS deliveries.
  • Custom object columns are included in the .csv file and can affect the order of your file in relation to standard column order.
